Yard Drainage & Swales in Delray Beach

By the DelrayLandscaper editorial team · Updated October 21, 2026

Delray Beach gets most of its heavy rain from June through October, often in short, intense storms. Standing water kills turf, attracts mosquitoes and can reach foundations. This guide explains the common fixes and lists local companies that handle drainage, including drainage swale work as part of full landscape projects.

Common drainage problems

Low spots that hold water for a day or more after rain
Water flowing toward the house or pool deck
Swales along the road that have filled in or been sodded flat
Downspouts dumping onto beds or walkways

Fixes contractors use

Regrading: reshaping soil so water moves away from structures
Swales: shallow, grassed channels that carry and absorb runoff
French drains and dry wells: underground gravel and pipe systems that collect and disperse water
Hardscape slope: pavers set with the right pitch and permeable joints

What to ask before hiring

Will they survey grades and show where water will go?
Do they handle any required permits (work in a public swale or right-of-way may need one)?
How will irrigation and planting be restored afterwards?
